Hotel Booking in China

Finding a comfy bed in China isn’t hard—unless you’re trying to do it from abroad without knowing the local quirks. Here’s what you need to know before hitting that “Book Now” button.

Foreigner-Friendly Platforms

  • Booking.com

Booking.com is great for finding international hotel options, often with free cancellation.

Booking often lets you pay at the hotel or online with international credit cards like Visa or Mastercard.

  • Trip.com

Trip.com is China-based, making it especially useful for domestic stays and offering local customer support.

Trip.com supports credit cards, PayPal, and sometimes Alipay or WeChat Pay, making it convenient inside China.

  • Agoda

Agoda is strong on budget-friendly deals, especially for Asian destinations. Also works in China.

Agoda usually requires prepayment with credit cards, but sometimes offers “pay at hotel” options too.

Can All Hotels Host Foreigners?

Not all hotels in China are licensed to host foreign guests. This is very important. When booking, check if the hotel is “foreigner-friendly” — filter by “Accepts Foreigners.” If you're unsure—call ahead or choose a chain hotel which almost always accept foreign guests.

What Do You Need at Check-In?

  • Your physical passport. Some hotels will scan your passport info and register you with the local police (required by law).

  • A small deposit (via card or cash), often refunded at checkout (Depends, most of the time is not required).

Some Tips:

Check-in Tips
Hotels will ask for your passport (with valid visa) at check-in. Some may scan it or take a photo. It’s fast, but be ready.

Location Tips
Try to stay near a metro station. Trust me, in big cities, especially in Beijing, this saves a lot of time. Being central usually means more food, shops, and fun nearby.

Cancellation and Refund
Always check the cancellation policy before booking. Some hotels are flexible, others are strict — especially on Trip.com and Agoda.
